About Us

At Epios Therapy we pride ourselves in working with clients to cultivate a greater sense of purpose so that we can take value-driven actions towards a more fulfilling life. We love embracing our uniqueness while exploring self-defeating patterns we may engage in. Some of these patterns are alcohol & drugs, unhealthy relationships with food and our bodies, isolation, codependency, and other avoidance behaviors. We approach these situations judgment-free because at one point in time, these things worked, but now it is up to us to explore healthier alternatives that are sustainable and grant us serenity.

Founded in 2023, Epios Therapy was created by Ben Shaver LPC in hopes of creating a practice where they focus on treating the person rather than the “problem”. Ben believed that a very humanistic approach based upon empathy, collaboration, and humor can unbox and unravel some of the more complicated challenges that we face in our lives. While all of our therapists here are classically trained and have clinical experience, we believe leaning into what makes us similar, rather than our differences, can be a foundation of a beautiful therapeutic connection. At Epios therapy we recognize how easy it can be to get caught in self-defeating patterns considering that not only have our therapists been trained to identify them, but they themselves also have shared experience. For this reason, we pride ourselves in refraining from judging and will do whatever is in our power to create a more fulfilling life for our clients.

Our Team

Ben Shaver M.Ed LPC

founder / therapist

Life can suck, but it doesn’t have to. Hi, I’m Ben and I’m a therapist offering telehealth services in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. As a therapist, I love leaning into our weirdness while normalizing some of our insecurities and challenges that life throws at us. I believe life is challenging and while we have coped over the years to get to where we are today, I’m committed to making you feel more confident about where you are going. By building a strong connection together, we can figure out what is working and what behaviors we have picked up along the way that now cause more harm than good. My hope is that by using wisdom, humor, and empathy, we collaboratively can work towards creating a more fulfilling life. I specialize in anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, and addiction which I have had ample exposure to over the years and experienced on multiple different levels. I have worked in inpatient psychiatric hospitals, with partial hospitalization programs, and also in outpatient settings. I received my undergraduate degree from Drexel University and my master’s degree from Temple University. Currently, I reside in Atlantic County, but you can find me venturing up to Philadelphia quite frequently for friends, family, and all of the tasty food. I look forward to speaking with you and implore you to reach out if you have any questions.

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANYONE DEAD OR ALIVE

Anthony Bourdain. His love of food, wit, and dark humor would make for a great meal and an even better conversation.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TRIP SO FAR?

I would say my favorite so far was going taking a solo trip to Colombia. Not only did I see beautiful beaches, taste amazing coffee, and explore the jungle, but I also had some serious self-reflection while discovering new things about myself.

BETWEEN CLIENTS, YOU CAN FIND ME……:

At the gym, nerding out on some anime, or enjoying some great food with my girlfriend.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON FOR YOURSELF?

I’m focusing on letting go and practicing mindfulness. With my anxiety, I find myself getting very stressed at trying to create order out of the chaos. Instead, now I’m trying to sit in the unknown rather than control it.

FAQ

Yes we do! Currently we work with multiple companies that provide mental health and substance abuse coverage to clients. For insurance questions specific to your policy such as out-of-pocket costs, copays, and deductibles, please reach out to us directly.

We offer telehealth services for clients located in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.    If you have questions about how a telehealth session works or consider yourself technically challenged, please contact us and we will assist you!

The duration of therapy varies based on individual needs, goals, and the nature of concerns. Some clients opt for more short-term interventions while others engage in longer-term therapeutic processes of self-discovery. Ultimately, the length of therapy is a collaborative decision between the client and therapist. As for the sessions themselves, individual sessions are 55 minutes in length unless otherwise specified.

In the first therapy session, you can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, provide an overview of your background and current concerns, and begin building a connection with the therapist, and create goals for your sessions. The foundation of a great therapeutic relationship is built on trust and connection, so the first session is focused on information gathering and building rapport to tackle some of the discussed problems in the future.
